Lázaro becomes the servant of an esquire

It was very difficult but I could finally arrive in Toledo. I was walking around this city when a man, who was well-dressed and clean, asked me.
- Boy , are you looking for a master?
I said:
- Yes, sir.
- You are very lucky. Come with me.
We went around the city but he didn’t stop to buy food. I thought that he had food at home. And I was very happy.
CHAPTER 11
The empty house
It was one o’clock. My master opened the door of the house. We got in. It was very dark inside and I was afraid. Inside there was a small patio and some bedrooms.
After that, he took off his cloak and he asked me if my hands were clean. We folded the cloak and put it on a bench. Then, he asked me where I was from. I wanted to eat and not talk, but I sat down and told him some lies about my life.
It was two o’clock and we were sitting there. There was nobody in the house. He asked me:
- Boy, did you eat yet?
- No, sir. I met you at eight o’clock and we didn’t eat.
- Well, I had breakfast before eight and I never eat anything until the evening. We will have supper later.

I was starving with hanger and I almost fainted. I knew he had nothing to eat.
I sat at the door and I took out some pieces of bread. He asked me:
-What are you eating?
He came to me, took the biggest piece and said:
- This bread looks great. Where did you buy it? Was it made with clean hands?
- I don’t know, sir. But it’s OK for me.
He ate it very quickly and I ate the other pieces very quickly, too. We finished at the same time.
