Lázaro and the blind man: clever boy and clever man

The blind man was very greedy so I was always starving with hunger. But I learned to cheat on him.
He put the bread in a bag. The bag was closed in the mouth with an iron ring. The iron ring was locked with a padlock. He took things out very carefully so I couldn’t put my hand in the bag.
He gave me very little bread and I was very hungry.
However, after the blind man locked the padlock I got near the bag and I made a hole in it. Then, I took out pieces of bread, sausage and bacon.

I also stole money from him. I carried half-farthings in my pocket. When the blind man was sent to pray, they paid him with farthings. Then, I put them into my mouth and gave him half-farthings, instead. The blind man touched them and knew they were half-farthings.
- What’s this! Since you are with me, people pay me with half-farthings. You bring me bad luck.

He was very mean and deceitful. He never finished his prayers.
After a woman paid him, he said:
- Throw me my cloak when she goes away.

CHAPTER 3
The sweet and bitter jar

When we ate, the blind man put a jar of wine near him. I grabbed it very quickly and drank a little and put it again in the same place. But the blind man realized he had less wine so he never let go of the jar again.
However, I got a long straw and drank with it. But the clever man realized he had less wine, and he put the jar between his knees and put his hands on top of the jar.
I found another solution. I made a hole in the jar and put some wax to cover the hole. When I wanted to drink, I told the old man that I was cold and I got between his knees, the wax melted and I drank all the wine.
The blind man found the hole and took revenge. The following day, when I was drinking the wine, he put that jar up and hit it on my mouth. It was a very big blow and he broke my teeth and I fainted.
When I recovered, I decided to leave the blind man. He was beating me every day, for no reason.
I always took him over the worst roads, where there were stones and mud to make him angry and he beat me harder.
