How to share a bunch of grapes
We arrived in Almorox. A man gave the blind man a bunch of grapes. He couldn’t put the grapes into the bag because they were very ripe.
He said:
- I want to share these grapes with you. We will do it this way. You take one and I take one. But you must take only one at a time until we finish them.

We started in this way, but then he started to take two at a time. When I saw this, I took two at a time, then, three, then, four at a time. He said:
- Lázaro, You cheated me. I think you took three grapes at a time.
- I didn’t do that. Why are you saying that?
- Because I took two at a time and you remained silent.
I laughed to myself and realized that a blind man can be very clever.

CHAPTER 5
The sausage and the turnip
Once we were in Escalona, in an inn. My master gave me a piece of sausage. He told me to cook it on the fire. I was very hungry so I took the sausage, I ate it and gave the blind man a turnip, instead.
When he put the turnip into his mouth , he got furious. He grabbed my head and smelled my mouth. Then he put his nose into my mouth. He put his nose so deeply into my mouth that I vomited the sausage onto his face.
After that, he wanted to kill me. But a lot of people came in to rescue me.
The blind man told the people about my deceits, about the wine, the grapes and the sausage. Everyone laughed so loudly that people in the street came in to see what was going on.
