Prolongation signs are symbols that make notes last longer. There are three: the dot, the tie, and the fermata.



Signs of prolongation

The dot is the point placed to the right of the note, and it ADDS half of its duration.”
The tie ADDS the values of the notes. It is a curved line that connects two notes with the same name and sound

The fermata is the sign placed above or below a note, and it makes the note last as long as the performer wants.
